But before you do, I do want to share a few helpful design tips to get the most out of your WordPress radio station theme. 1. Use Vibrant Colors and GradientsMusic is often the opposite of dull and lifeless. Thatâs why itâs important to match the lively mood in your color choices. Modern color schemes for 2023 are heading away from pastels. Find vibrant, energetic colors and use them in gradients. I recommend using this color wheel tool from Adobe to find the perfect blend of colors. 2. Play With White SpaceWhile creating useful pages, many amateur designers fall into the trap of cramming in too much content. Instead, use white space to your advantage. White space is the space between page elements. Go minimal and limit the number of elements you use per page and space them well. It makes your site look great while being easier to interact with. 3. Typography is ImportantMany great pages donât meet their full potential by using uninspired fonts. In 2023, bold, large typefaces are a great way to attract visitors to your WordPress radio theme. But be careful! Many great-looking fonts arenât web-compatible. I recommend checking out Google Fonts for choices, as well as the incredible custom font collection on Envato Elements. 4. Design For MobileDid you know that according to Statista, more than half of global website traffic comes from mobile devices? That means that designing your WordPress radio station theme for desktop only leaves out a lot of potential visitors. Make sure you find a fully-responsive template. That means your listeners can enjoy your website no matter the device. 5. Add High-Quality ImagesIt may be music to their ears, but you should also plan to appeal to your visitorâs eyes. Using great images in your WordPress radio theme instantly elevates the look of your website. Try out different layouts that let you use photos to complement the music you feature. Campbell, who learned his craft working at shops such as Wieden+Kennedy and Goodby Silverstein & Partners, noted that “creatives who came out in the last three years are missing out on being next to someone and watching them do their thing.” Remote work “hasn’t affected experienced creative thinkers,” said Graf, adding that “it’s a little harder when mid-level junior people are involved” who may require guidance from more seasoned talent that might be lacking in a remote environment. “It’s really hard for juniors to start out in a different city and try to do it all remotely,” said Greg Hahn, co-founder and CCO of Mischief @ No Fixed Address. “There’s so much you have to learn about just what it takes to go through production or to present to a client or to get stuff ready,” he added. “People who started out of college in the lockdown were at a disadvantage.” Read more: Ad agencies face succession hurdles New vs. old methodsHahn’s agency was formed during the pandemic when remote work was at its height, yet has trophy cases stuffed with creative awards, including Ad Age’s Agency of the Year honor for 2022. “We were built during this time and could sort of flex and see what works as we were going along,” he said. “It’s harder for these places that have massive office structures that have been doing things the same way for the last couple of decades and had to figure out a way to make that work.” For an agency like We Believers, which has been operating remotely since 2014 and has racked up Cannes awards each year since its launch, the creative conversation is moot. “We’d rather have the right talent having the freedom to work from their place of choosing than a bunch of energy and hours wasted on the daily commute,” Marco Vega, president and co-founder, said. “We’ve grown steadily every year since we started the agency and, if anything, our creative output has thrived … A remote setup opens up space to choose the right partners for the idea rather than just using your full-time staff.” Other agencies, including 72andSunny, Circus Maximus and Movers + Shakers, continue to have a work-from-anywhere model. Chemistry Chief Creative Officer Chris Breen believes one reason some feel the quality of work has dropped recently is because of the fragmented media landscape in which ads exist. “It was much easier 15 years ago to point towards five amazing [creative ideas],” Breen said. “Now, maybe three of those amazing [ideas] you never see because it’s not all mass media,” he said. “It’s going to a much more defined audience and you may not be a part of that.” “I’m not sure that it’s the creative that’s worse, but more that advertising itself is,” said Katie Keating, co-founder and co-chief creative officer of remote agency Fancy. “Not only are budgets shrinking, but what’s left must be spread further. Much more is going into tactical work and that’s often done in-house. My feed is full of product shots, demos, influencers. When I have the occasion to watch linear TV, I see a lot of interesting DTC brands doing a bunch of uninteresting commercials.” Credle believes one of the reasons for the decline in work is related to the rise in project-based assignments. A recent report from consultancy R3 found that even though there was an 11% increase in the number of global pitches in 2022, overall those pitches brought in 35% less revenue compared to the year prior. “Great work comes from trust and mutual respect. Great work is often the outcome of a commitment to a point of view and multiple attempts at expressing that POV creatively,” Credle said. “Hire agencies by the hour, and it’s hard for client or agency to drive the work where it needs to go.” Credle also said the industry needs to do a better job of championing more “brand-defining work” rather than just award-winning work. “If we want great creative work to work, we have to prove we can do it on our biggest brands,” Credle said. “Most agencies do their best work on special projects—those that sit off to the side of where the working dollars are being spent. We have to motivate, inspire and pay our people to do their best work on our clients’ greatest media investments.” via Digital Marketing Education https://ift.tt/0g58sHT Do you want to create a mobile-friendly version of your WordPress website so it can load instantly on mobile phones? Detert shared an example prompt his team gave ChatGPT that asked it to make a creative brief for an influencer on Meta and TikTok for a lower-calorie soda aimed at women ages 25-34. The prompt also asked for it to be light-hearted and about fashion, but weaving in the message of the drink. ChatGPT replied with an objective, target audience, key message, a broad example of an influencer for the campaign, and what kind of content they should make. For example, including the phrase, “Refresh your look and your health with my favorite lower calorie soda.” “The technology is certainly not in a place to replace creators,” BEN’s Folkman said. “But it could give you a competitive advantage if you play around with it,” Indeed some creatives have even been using generative AI to imagine new brand collaborations. Related: ChatGPT attempts to write Super Bowl ads While ChatGPT and Bing’s chatbot have led to some interesting conversations, AI is ultimately only as good as the text data that it was trained with. While it may help with the administrative tasks of finding and partnering with creators, marketers agree it can’t replicate the community and creativity that creators bring. Because ChatGPT is based on a data set, it often gives an average answer, pulling from ideas that have already been done. “If you take what it gives you as a stopping point, that will not work,” Folkman said. “It should be a starting point and then you need to work with it.” The “holy grail” for Detert would be to type in the scene or concept a brand wants out of an influencer campaign and have an approved finished product appear in seconds that can then be published in a creator’s feed. “The two biggest blockers of this are copyright laws around AI-generated imagery and videos, as well as all of the brand name, images and logos,” Detert said. “The other is realism. Most AI outputs have made people or things cartoonish.” via Digital Marketing Education https://ift.tt/cpiwAyd A few highlights: Acorns’ squirrel mascot (voiced by Christopher Walken) says, “We believe that slower is better” as part of a continuing campaign about the power of long-term investing. Every ad in the Top 50 scored 5-Stars on System1’s scale from 1 to 5.9-Stars, with the average rating being 5.4-Stars. Typically, only 1% of ads get the top 5-Star score. 21 of the Top 50 ads centred on Christmas. By comparison, just two Christmas ads – from Aldi and Coca-Cola – scored 5-Stars in 2021. “This past year was an exceptional one for effectiveness, especially during the festive season,” says Jon Evans, Chief Customer Officer, System1. “We’re seeing more brands and agencies bring their best creative ideas forward, resulting in ads that deliver on long-term brand building.”
The Top 10 are: 1/Asda – Have your Elf a Merry Christmas – 5.9-Stars The Top 10 category leaders are: 1/Asda – Retail As well as Christmas, other themes included themes from the Top 50, included:
*Emotional Engagement is Up – 2022 saw a dramatic increase in the number of 5-Star ads compared to 2021 and 2020, demonstrating emotional storytelling. *A Return to Normal – While the Covid-19 pandemic isn’t over, many consumers are thinking about travel again. A wave of holiday ads made the Top 50, putting sun, sea and scenery back on the agenda. *Cultural References – a rise in ads which reference or borrow iconic actors or characters, like Barbour’s annual use of Paddington Bear in its Christmas ad. *Moments of Indulgence – Ads for confectionery and other treats score well every year since brands in those sectors have a naturally high level of emotional appeal. In 2022, top confectionery ads followed a particular formula – they zoom in on a single moment of indulgent, sensual pleasure created by the product, as in strong-scoring Waitrose ad.
*Song and Dance – from the office worker dancing to Carly Rae Jepsen in Wrigley’s ad to the conga line in M&S’ Christmas ad to the excitable kids in Matalan’s back-to-school ads. ITV director of client strategy and planning Kate Waters says: “It’s encouraging to see more brands creating more emotionally engaging ads. But an interesting lesson from this year’s top 50 is the importance of not resting on your creative laurels – relative advantage versus your competitors is what really matters and that’s where brilliant creativity and craft can make the difference. FLEDGE opened the “possibility of creating a level playing field with an ad auction that is fully managed by the publisher,” Włodarczyk said. The FLEDGE API—application programming interface—could give publishers and advertisers more transparency about the bidding activity in the auctions, Włodarczyk said. With FLEDGE “it will be easier for publishers troubleshoot to find potential issues” Włodarczyk said. “Also, it will be way more transparent from the perspective of the value of a bid, so there will be no possibility to hide the margins.” FLEDGE is not getting widespread adoption, even though RTB House said it is “truly a valuable concept.” There are some big-name early testers, including Amazon, which built a “bidding function” that complied with FLEDGE standards, RTB House found. Also, the programmatic advertising firm Teads created interest groups in FLEDGE, RTB said in its report. The FLEDGE tests are expanding, if slowly. Since August, Chrome made 5% of users eligible for ads delivered through the new auctions. In December, 20 million U.S. Chrome users were in interest groups available for ad targeting through FLEDGE, up from 1 million users in August, RTB House found. However, publishers have been slow to jump into FLEDGE, in part, because third-party cookies are still available as targeting options, which lowers the urgency to try the new system. Publishers and supply-side platforms are waiting for Google Ad Manager, the publisher services arm of Google, to offer a FLEDGE option, RTB House said in its report. via Digital Marketing Education https://ift.tt/iKanVBS Interpublic CEO Philippe Krakowsky has been busily ringing the changes since the took over from Michael Roth and now flagship digital agency R/GA has new leaders: CEO Sean Lyons is on his way – “to pursue a new opportunity” – and global CCO Tiffany Rolfe takes on the role of chair while chief client officer Robin Forbes becomes interim CEO (both below.) R/GA, once the model of what a holding company digital agency should look like, has had a rougher time recently: closing it San Francisco office with Krakowsky highlighting a shortfall in project work at R/GA and Huge as problems in his 2022 annual results statement. Biggest creative agency McCann also has a new leader in former media executive Daryl Lee, while Grey’s Javier Campopiano was this was appointed as CCO of both McCann and McCann Worldgroup (the hitherto semi-independent McCann network.) Krakowski says: “R/GA has always been one of the most technologically-advanced agencies, where brands turn for transformational marketing and experiences driven by creativity and innovation,” commented Krakowsky. “We thank Sean for his leadership and commitment to shaping R/GA into the recognized leader it is today and wish him well going forward. “We’re also very much looking forward to supporting Tiffany, Robin and the leadership team at R/GA as they continue to define what the future of marketing can look like with work that creates valuable human experiences and taps into the potential of emerging technologies for a great portfolio of clients.” Creative agency brands are under pressure at all the big ad holding companies, hardly surprising in a sense as there are so many of them. WPP CEO Mark Read this week claimed that his merged line-up: AKQA (incorporating Grey), VMLY&R and Wunderman Thompson (all of which put technology up front) was the way to go as it made life easier for clients and added to profits. via Digital Marketing Education https://ift.tt/nsBorWE After yet another disappointing year for diversity among Super Bowl directors--82% of this year’s Big Game spots were directed by white men—it’s become clear advertisers need further help in embracing different voices. To shine a light on gifted directors who aren’t getting the chances they deserve, Ad Age worked with Sophie Gold, founder and president of Eleanor, with input from other production company leaders, to compile the list below. We focused on Black directors specifically, since only one Black director made a Super Bowl ad this year (Rodney Lucas via Even/Odd for the NFL and 72andSunny). Related: Super Bowl ads get a failing grade for director diversity While the Super Bowl may be just a snapshot of the industry at a given moment, it’s an important one, said Gold. “It’s a snapshot that should concern the industry because by limiting ourselves to a narrow demographic, we are limiting the storytelling, creativity and effectiveness of our work,” she said. “Anyone interested in improving storytelling, creativity and effectiveness—the very things that have declined, according to many voices within the industry—can play their part in a cultural turnover when Super Bowl LVIII rolls around next year.” This is hardly a definitive list, but it’s a start for clients and agencies who may not know where to look for diverse directors who are already creating great work—and can do so on the Big Game, too. “There are others,” said Gold. “Investigate their talent, and then invest in them. Make these directors part of your conversations. They’re not up-and-coming, risky or another subversive word. They are talented directors, award winners who have already poured so much into advertising, entertainment and film.” via Digital Marketing Education https://ift.tt/1IOQKnN |
